This unit looks at the way artists have been inspired by nature subjects and natural materials. Students will study how artists use color in their artworks. Students will consider how the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists used color in both natural ad expressive ways. We will also take a look at Japanese zen gardens.

Art Project
1. Students will draw a zen garden and color it using a color scheme from the worksheets.
2. Students will write one paragraph about their research on zen gardens and one paragraph on the symbolism behind their zen garden.
3. Students will glue their zen garden piece and their informative essay to a black piece of construction paper.
